1 Peter 3:1-12

INTRODUCTION:

1. Turn with me in your Bibles to 1 Peter 3:1-12.

2. By having accepted Yahweh's grace that has been extended to us, it will

Affect every aspect of our lives:

3. From the point of salvation, there starts a transformation process, that will

touch every part of our lives.

4. And that is what we have been talking about as we have gone through

    1 Peter.

5. Yahweh's grace that changes us from the inside out, where Jesus touches

All parts of our lives, including our relationships.

6. Last week we saw that first, God's grace means, that we are to be

    submissive to our bosses:

  a. That the Jewish slaves was paid a wage. (So this is easily translated to

us today in our work relationships)

  b. And that the Word of God isn't just talking about the good bosses. (But

those that are not so good, GK translates the perverse)

  c. And that we can only do this with our focus on Jesus. (Doing this for

Him and not for the boss)

7. Second we saw, Grace means, that we are to patiently suffer for

    righteous acts:

  a. When we do wrong and suffer for it, it is just. (Reaping what we have

      sown)

  b. But when we are doing what is right in God's eyes, and suffer for it.

(God is glorified for those actions in our lives)

  c. And this finds favor with God. (And we are pleasing to Him, and

      receive His blessing)

8. And third, Grace means, that are called to follow in Jesus' footsteps.

  a. This is also called our purpose as Christians. (Christ told us that

because He suffered in this life, we would as well)

  b. Remember He committed no sin at all. (And when He suffered He

      patiently endured it)

  c. Because He sought the Father's will in all things. (Carrying out His

Father's will was more important to Him than His suffering)

9. This brings us to the next relationship that will be affected by God's grace.

10. The marriage relationship.

11. God created man and women, and the institution of marriage perfect.

12. But sin destroyed that perfection, and marred what God intended for

      things to be like.

13. So, He is seek to restore that which He has created perfect.

14. Let's read 1 Peter 3:1-12, Pray!

I.  Grace means, that wives are called to allow Yahshua to shine through

     them. V1-6

  A. Notice:  This section starts with "In the same way".

    1. This is in reference to governments, and slaves or employee's:

      a. This is done with Messiah as the focus. (The reason for our actions)

      b. Look at verse 1. (So that your husbands if disobedient may be won)

      c. The wife's behavior reflects the love of Messiah. (His character)

      d. This has nothing to do with the husband deserving anything. (Not

          based on his merits)

    2. What is seen is Yahshua's reflection through the wife:

      a. He is not putting down the use of makeup. (Or looking nice, He says,

          "Not merely")

      b. But the most important quality is being referred to here. (A quality

          that shines above outward appearances)

      c. That's one of trust in Yahweh. (That's is the only way one can have

          that gentle and quiet spirit)

    3. This is the example that Yahweh passed down:

      a. Through holy women of the Bible. (Picture of what God is talking

          about)

      b. God doesn't leave us questioning. (But through His Word speaks to

          us in pictures)

      c. His will for our lives. (Setting up His kingdom here)

II.  Grace means that husbands are called to reflect Yahshua. V7

  A. Look at the word "Likewise".

    1. Live with your wives in an understanding way:

      a. First of all knowing how hard it is to put up with us. (We are not

always that easy to live with)

      b. But also knowing what Messiah did for us. (Laid His life down for

us, and so should we for our wives) 1 Cor.

      c. This is a dying of our self will. (Being servants, creating an

environment for them to grow in Christ)

    2. Understanding that they are the weaker vessel:

      a. This is not talking about spiritual strength. (Which is Christian

          maturity)

      b. The GK word used pictures a priceless vessel. (One that couldn't be

          replaced)

      c. A vessel that is fragile to be displayed for its beauty. (Placed in a

          special place)

    3. With understanding that they are our equals in the Kingdom:

      a. This speaks of equality. (How God views them)

      b. This speaks of the two. (Being one complete set)

      c. Not being complete. (Without the other)

III.  Grace means that we will inherit a blessing. V8-12

  A. This is a promise to those that give themselves to Yahshua.

    1. This is about living in an understanding way with each other:

      a. Living in harmony. (Unity being of the same mind, that of Messiah)

      b. Living in sympathy. (Realizing that we all need God's grace to live

          this life)

      c. Living as the family God has made us. (Being kind and humble with

          each other)

    2. This is about living life surrendered to Him:

      a. As we learned in Chapter 2:21-25. (Patiently suffering)

      b. Turning it all over to Christ. (And allowing Him to be the righteous

           judge)

      c. Trusting Him in everything that happens. (Knowing that we will all

stand before God and be judged)

    3. This is truly about trusting God:

      a. Believing that He has His eyes on us. (Keeping watch over us)

      b. Believing that He "ALWAYS" hears our prayers. (And answers

          them)

      c. Being patient in this life. (Waiting on Him to bring about His

perfect will in His perfect time)
