I. He came to those who ought to have recognized Him. V10-13
A. We need to look closely at some of the things discussed here.
1. In verse 10 we are able to see some things that may seem difficult:
a. “He was in the world”. (GK “in” refers to something fixed in time and
can mean “in” but it can also mean “before”, which can also go back
to rule and judgment )
1). So if we look at this word carefully. (This could say, “He was before the
world and the world was created by Him, and yet the world did not
recognize Him, or His rule and judgment)
a). But also means “fixed in time. (And can mean “into” RT word “ice”
“ek” meaning “origin” look at Gen 1:14)
2). Now this is important for us to get. (This really fits with Scripture in
some other areas as well and will help explain some things)
3). Look at Rom. 1:18-21. (Look specifically at V19-21, what can be
known about Yahweh is evident among them because it has been
shown to them)
a). Could it be that the Aleph Tov in Gen. 1:1. (Shows more than two
letters repesenting Him, maybe they also indicate who He is as
being part of the creation itself?)
4). Look close. (It has been seen since the creation of the world being
known through what He created)
5). Look even closer. (V21 For they knew Yahweh and did not glorify
Him as Eloheem so their minds were darkened)
6). The word “clearly seen”. (GK kath-o-ah-o and means “to behold fully”
so Yahweh’s invisible attributes can be beheld fully through His
creation and to reject them and not glorify Him darkens our minds)
b. Now this becomes even more clear in verse 11:
1). He came to His own. (GK for “own” is id-ee-os and means own but
can also means “His own home or house”)
2). This separates these two verses. (One being the whole world didn’t
recognize Him, but His own household didn’t did not receive Him)
3). Now turn with me to Jn 12:37-43. (Even though He performed many
signs in their presence they did not believe in Him)
4). Now the word “sign” or “miracle”. (GK is “sign” or “miracle” it can
also mean “indication” or an indication of who He was and is)
5). Look at Deut. 29:2-4. (They had seen with their eyes all the miracles
and still they did not have a mind to understand)
6). This word “sign” in V3. (Heb. is oth and means signal, flag, but it can
also mean evidence, or evidence of who I am)
7). There was evidence of their unbelief. (Look at Ex. 17:3 they grumbled
and accused Moses of leading them out there to kill them, look also
at Num. 11:1 they complained openly before Yahweh)
8). Now this had been prophesied about. (Look at Is. 53:1 and Is. 6:9-10
that this would happen)
9). But look at why in Jn. 12:42-43. (This goes back to Rom. 1:18-21, they
did not confess Him because they were afraid of the Pharisee’s and
being kicked out of the synagogue, they loved the praise of men more
than the praise of Yahweh)
10). Now I want to look at this closer. (Believe in the GK is pist-yoo-o and
means to have faith and to put trust in)
11). But look at Jn. 12:42. (They did not confess Him because of the
Pharisee’s or because they were afraid of what the Pharisee’s would
do)
12). Now this word “confess”. (IN the GK hom-ol-og-eh-o and means to
confess, but it also means to promise)
a). The Hebrew word is yada. (And it means to revere in worship, and we
find 60% of its uses we will find in the Psalms)
b). We find yada in Gen. 29:35. (Leah bore Judah and praised Yahweh,
it was through Judah that Yashua was born or came, the word
praise is yada)
c). So this idea is more than we think. (It is not only to believe in but also
enter into a covenant relationship with Him in worship of Him)
13). Now this covenant relationship is important. (And we can see this in
V12 of John 1)
a). This word “receive”. (GK is lam-ban-o and means “to take” and is
tied into a covenant relationship)
b). The Hebrew word is law-kakh. (We find this word used in Ex. 6:7 and
means “to take” but is tied up with Yahweh “taking Israel to be His
people” in a marriage covenant)
c). Now look closely. (We see this same word used in Matt. 26:26-28
which gives us the idea that when we “take on His blood” we are
taking on more than what we have previously considered)
d). Look at Lev. 17:14. (The “life” of the flesh is in the blood of people
and of animals, “life” in Heb. is neh-fesh and means vitality, but it
can also mean soul or the breath)
e). So to drink the blood. (Would be to take on the soul of someone or of
something)
f). So when Yahsua said. (This is My blood, drink it, He was talking
taking on His life or being one with Him, or the marriage
relationship)
g). So in Jn. 1:12. (All who “take Him” or to enter into that marriage
covenant relationship with Him)
14). This is important. (Because it is those who He gives the right to be
children of Eloheem or God)
a). Now the term “children of God” is important. (Look at Ex. 4:22-23,
according to this passage Israel is Yahweh’s first born and because
Pharaoh refused to let Yahweh’s first born go and worship Him,
Yahweh would remove Egypt’s first born)
b). Look at Deut. 14:1-2. (The sons of Yahweh are to live by a certain
standard because the sons were chosen by Yahweh)
c). Look at Eph. 2:11-20. (Notice some things here, V11 remember “at
one time you were Gentile (heathen) all past tense in regards to the
word Gentile)
d). Look at Eph. 2:12. (At one time you were without Messiah, once
again it is written in the past tense, also you have been brought near
through Messiah)
e). Notice Eph. 2:19. (You are no longer strangers and foreigners, but
you are fellow citizens in Yahweh’s household)
f). Look at Rom. 11:16-20. (Natural branches were broken off because of
unbelief, and those who believe have been grafted into the olive tree)
g). This passage is in reference to Jere. 11:15-17. (This olive tree is in
reference to Israel that had been broken off because of the worship
Baal)
15). Now to understand this next part we need to look at John 8:31-58:
a). Look at V31-39. (Yashua starts talking about being His disciples, and
identifies His disciples as those who continue in His word)
b). Yashua also makes a distinction. (And it is between those who are free
and those who are slaves, and it has to do with continuing in sin or
not)
c). Look at Jere. 9:23-26. (The righteous will boast not in anything to do
with physical things, instead he is to boast in knowing Yahweh)
d). This deals with matters from the heart. (V25-26 we need to be obedient
to be circumcised of heart as well)
e). This whole discussion in John 8:31-58. (Has to do with the true
descendants of Abraham were not just because they had been born
in the flesh that way, but that they had been born of the Spirit, or
taken on the life of Yashua that continues in His word)
f). So the one who is of the household of Yahweh. (Is the one who Yahweh
taken in the marriage covenant through Yashua’s blood and through
obedience to or continuing in His word)
g). The word “right”. (GK is ex-oo-see-ah and it means right, power,
authority and strength)
h). So this means. (All who have entered into a covenant relationship
with Yahweh through Yashua’s blood and obedience to His word
have received the power, right and strength to become part of His
household)
